Septic System Repair

When something goes wrong underground, the right repair now prevents a full replacement later.

Common repairs and what causes them

The most frequent septic repair is a failed or missing baffle. The outlet baffle sits inside the tank and keeps floating solids from leaving with the effluent. When it corrodes, cracks, or falls off entirely, those solids flow straight into the drain field piping and start choking the distribution lines. Replacing a baffle is a straightforward job if it is caught during a routine pump-out or inspection.

Cracked tank walls and compromised seams are the next most common finding. Concrete tanks in Mississippi soil are subject to root pressure and seasonal ground movement. A small crack allows groundwater into the tank, which raises the water level, shortens the retention time, and pushes poorly treated effluent into the field before the solids have had time to settle. The repair depends on the severity: a hairline crack can be sealed in place, while a structurally compromised wall may mean a tank replacement.

Pipe repairs between the house and the tank, or between the tank and the distribution box, are less visible but just as consequential. A separated joint or a root-infiltrated line can cause a backup into the house or a wet spot in the yard that smells like sewage. The crew locates the break, excavates, and replaces the damaged section.
